Giving Thanks Benefit 2018

The Fifth Annual
 Giving Thanks Benefit Event

Assistance Dogs of Hawaii

Mark your calendars! The ADH "Giving Thanks" Benefit Event will take place on November 11th, 2018 at the Waialae Country Club on Oahu. 🐾

You won't want to miss this incredible evening!

It's always nice as an artist to donate work to a charity.  Every year I donate my artwork to Assistance Dogs of Hawaii. This is the fabulous training school founded by Mo and Will Maurer. http://assistancedogshawaii.org/

My  service dog, Wesley, is from ADNW which is part of ADH. I have had three assistance dogs from them and they have been the best. The most loving, helpful, and loyal companions!

This is my service dog Wesley!

Casey just donated one of her gorgeous Sumi-e paintings to ADH, my training school. It is for their silent auction at the benefit. Isn’t that pawsitively cool?

Kelly's Magic Persimmons

It is my pleasure to donate a piece of my art for the silent auction and support such a deserving organization that helps so many people and dogs!

This painting is very special to me. It was painted in honor of my daughter as she battles cancer. These are her magic persimmons!

This elegant framed painting has been donated to the Assistance Dogs of Hawaii. They are having a charity benefit in February called 'Puppy Love". This painting will be offered in the silent auction. I hope it brings in a lot of money for ADH. This is the organization that trained my beloved service dog, Gabe.

Stroke of Luck ~ Healing with Art

Stroke of Luck ~ Healing with Art

I am a contemporary Sumi-e artist reaching beyond the limits of traditional ink painting and creating the ‘sound of one hand’. My paintings one would not generally call traditional sumi-e. However, I adhere to the traditional sumi-e principles and philosophies, as well as, the traditional preparation before beginning a sumi-e painting. Sumi-e expresses the character and soul of the artist. It is a meditative process and spiritually personal. Understanding this concept has been at the center of my art.

I experienced a massive brain-stem stroke 30 years ago. As an international sumi-e artist, I am often asked to tell my story of victory over stroke and how I used my art as an integral part of my recovery. I decided a few years ago to put my stroke story on my personal art website in the hopes it would inspire and benefit others recovering from stroke and also other artists in need of a little boost.

My heartfelt mission is to tell everyone on the planet that there is hope and life after stroke or any traumatic life-altering experience. I want to inspire others not only with my words but also with my art.

Click on Recovery Art to view some of my post-stroke recovery art.
Click on Meet the Artist to read about my path as an artist and Instructor.
Be sure to visit my Portfolio of Galleries  and view my current and elegant Sumi-e paintings.
I have several beautiful galleries there.

Self Portrait Project

Self Portrait Project
Casey Shannon and Gabe

This is my self portrait that I will be sending to the Art House Gallery for the Self Portrait Project Exhibition. The gallery will be hanging on their walls various self portraits in all media from artists around the world. And, this exhibit will be the largest collection of portraits ever! Not only will they have the portraits on exhibition at the Brooklyn Art Library in New York, they will create a book that will document all of the submissions. The book will be available for purchase at the gallery.
