I am so pleased to share with you that my sumi-e artwork is represented in this lovely and handy walking map and guide of Carmel Valley Villiage of the Central Coast in California. Carmel Valley is a quaint town with restaurants, vineyards with tasting rooms, lodges, shops, art galleries and the best Art Galley ever! CVAA @ Valley Girls Art Gallery. My art is exhibited there. The gallery is located at #2 Chambers Lane and open everyday from 11am to 5pm. If you are in this quaint little town, the gallery is a must see. Many local artists of all media are gracing the walls of this fantastic gallery.

Video-Sumi e Landscape by Casey Shannon

Carmel and Carmel Valley Views
by Casey Shannon

Majestic landscapes inspired by the gorgeous Monterey Peninsula. This is the new sumi-e artwork coming from the Casey Shannon Studio this summer of 2013. I hope you enjoy my video. Turn on your volume for lovely music! Time: 3:30

The Monterey Peninsula, especially Carmel/Carmel Valley, is unbelievably beautiful and certainly inspiring for the artist. Here you will find, seascapes, Monterey Cypress, hills, mountains, oak trees,  wild grasses, and flowers that will dazzle your eye.  I think this area is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Please enjoy my artist interpretation of this magic!

Spring Flower Fall

Spring Flower Fall
Contemporary Sumi-e by Casey Shannon

This image was created using sumi (ink) and watercolor painted on Shuen Paper (Xuan Paper). What is Shuen Paper you might ask? It is Chinese rice paper. Rice paper is the brush painter's canvas. Mastering the way ink behaves on the different rice papers is one of the essential skills of the brush painter. There are basically two kinds of rice paper -- raw paper and sized paper. Shuen Paper (Xuan Paper) is raw paper and the most popular paper in China among brush painters and calligraphers. It is the most sensitive of the rice papers, cheerfully displaying dynamic strokes and complex shade variations with translucent fluidity and original spontaneity. These tiny pink flowers grow abundantly on the hillsides in Carmel in the Spring and cascade in the wind like pink waterfalls.

The original sumi-e has been SOLD.

Robin Contemplating a Song

Robin Contemplating A Song Framed Print

Robin Contemplating a Song

Someone had to sing,
It was the little bird,
In the Spring tree.
~ Casey

This contemporary Sumi-e was inspired by all the beautiful Robins singing and dancing in the Oak Trees that surround my home. I am captivated by watching the wild birds and enjoy them very much as they play among the tree branches chasing each other. They flit from limb to limb in wild abandon. Birds are incredibly beautiful creatures and lovely to paint. There are many kinds of birds living here in Carmel Valley. This Spring the Robins seem to be everywhere with their song.

I have a wonderful new website where you can purchase my original Sumi-e as framed fine art reproductions at very resonable prices. You can finish your art print right on the website with a frame and mat of your choice and choose your glazing. It's very easy and so much fun to play with and choose your favorite. The materials and workmanship for each piece are of the finest quality available at an unbeatable price. Cards are also available.
