We had a stunning exhibition at:
Oregon Society of Artists
2185 S.W. Park Place
Portland, Oregon

The exhibit was:
October 26-29 2018

High Mountains Flowing Water is a classical Chinese song honoring friendship. The North America Branch of ICCPS is made up of artists with different backgrounds and styles from all over the world tied together with the same love for Chinese ink painting and calligraphy. Spanning continents of high mountains, and crossing oceans of flowing water, the artists hope to share their art with the rest of the world.

Contemporary and traditional Asian scrolls of calligraphy and ink painting by 30 artists from 11 countries were on display. The show was curated by Casey Shannon OSA member and Director of the North America Branch ICCPS.  Also helping was Annie Gazeley, long time Portland

Ensō Noble

Ensō Noble
Original sumi-e by Casey Shannon

This lovely Asian scroll just sold and is being shipped to New Jersey as we speak. It was purchased as a gift to a Tae Kwan Do master teacher. I am very honored my art was chosen to be given as the gift.

In Zen Buddhist painting, Ensō symbolizes a moment when the mind is free to simply let the body and spirit create in full moment-to-moment concert. In Buddhism, enlightenment has been symbolized by a “bright full moon”. This painting was inspired by the Ensō  and the strength and power of the mountain, tree, and rock. A gathering of three (trees and rocks)  in the center denotes beauty and simplicity.  It is sacred. It is oneness. It also signifies wholeness. This directly relates to the significance of the Ensō which among other things also signifies wholeness. Mountains are very strong and noble.

Hence, the title.’ Ensō Noble'.

Forever Home

Moon Shadows
Sumi-e by Casey Shannon

Image: 14 x 24
Scroll: 16 x 60

Medium: Sumi (ink) and Tea

This scroll was inspired by the beauty of nature and the beautiful mountains of Carmel Valley, CA. USA. The mountains are majestic and surround you with the gentleness of peace.

My scroll was on display in AnShan City, China in the exhibition of ICCPS for 2016. This exhibition was beautiful with over 100 scrolls displayed from sumi artists from around the world. China, Japan, USA, Canada, Holland, Argentina, Australia, France, and Russia.

My scroll recently found it "forever home" in Santa Cruz, CA. USA
Here are a few pictures of it in its new home.
