This is Where I Live

Sometimes I like to take a break from painting. At this time, I thoroughly enjoy creating sketchbooks with a theme. Making them feeds my very soul. Each individual drawing is a snapshot in time and it contains a loving part of me. To start my book, I took many many pictures of the outside and inside of my home. I enjoyed shooting all the 'nooks and crannies' of every corner and space. And, all the while thinking in my head, 'how shall I draw this scene?'

This sketchbook is still a work in progress. The book has the theme of 'This is Where I Live'. The completed sketchbook will be on display in The Art House Gallery at 303 Grand. The gallery is located in Brooklyn, NY. The Art House is a co-op for artists around the world and we build projects together. This is the second sketchbook I have created for The Art House. My book will remain on permanent display in their library.

So far, I have the outside completed, which consists of the first 19 pages. The finished sketchbook will contain 38 pages both inside and outside of where I live. Please stop by my website to view the sketchbook at this point ~ Outside. Stay tuned. The Inside will be finished soon!

Sketchbook Project ~ Grand Opening!

Brooklyn Art Library Grand Opening! Grand Opening canceled! They are rescheduling the show for Saturday, March 6th from 7:00-10:00pm. How to get to the Brooklyn Art Library The building is located on the corner of Coffey St and Richards St in Red Hook. Please enter from Coffey street. We will have a nice lighted sign to help guide you to our entrance. Take the F or G train to Smith/9th St. station. Take bus B-77 to Rocky Sullivan's Bar. Walk up to Coffey and make a left. Brooklyn Art Library is located in Red Hook in Brooklyn at: 201 Richards St #16 Brooklyn, NY 11231 In case for some reason you can't make it March 6th They will be open on Monday and Tuesday from 11:00-4:00pm next week. For updates on when they are open, check out the website starting on March 1st to see the hours for the current week. Art House Sketchbook Project

Art House Sketchbook Project 2009-2010

The Sketchbook Project Library sponsored by The Art House Gallery will house sketchbooks by artists from around the world. Visitors to the exhibit will receive library cards and be able to view the books at exhibitions around the country. The goal of the project is to create a giant collective of sketchbooks from around the globe and make it accessible to everyone. The Project was featured on CNN and the library will be touring across the country beginning on January 29, 2010 in Atlanta, GA. Please visit my Exhibition page to see the cities and dates of the tour. After the cities tour, the sketchbooks will go back to Brooklyn Art House Gallery for permanent library display in the gallery.

Rules: Each participating artist was given a moleskin sketchbook and a theme randomly chosen from 30 available themes. Artists were instructed to base their sketchbook around this theme. My theme was 'A Postcard'. Visit my Sketchbook Project page to see all 40 pages of my sketchbook interpretation. Page numbers and captions are below each image. I enjoyed this project beyond words. I used my imagination to create fantasy places, I drew my favorite places that I had visited over the years from memory, and I included beautiful areas from near my home in Carmel Valley.
