SSA ~ Sumi Society of America Exhibition

Mountain Music by Casey Shannon

I am so pleased to share with you that "Mountain Music" has been juried into the annual sumi-e exhibition of SSA - Sumi-e Society of America. I have been a member of this association for several years. However, I had not entered my work before for consideration in the annual exhibit.

This year the exhibition will be in Bloomington, Minnesota. at the Bloomington Center for the arts. The jurors are Yuming Zhu for sumi-e and Hong Zhang for calligraphy. The exhibit will be from August 9 to September 20, 2019. I am so pleased my work was accepted for this show.

Framed Mountain Music
This photo is similar as to how "Mountain Music" will look framed and presented in the exhibition. All entries must be framed and matted to certain specifications.

This image is very special to me. I painted this the morning that my service dog Gabe passed away. He left me very suddenly and unexpectedly not too long ago. I painted this just before he went to the rainbow bridge. Therefore, I consider this Gabe's painting.

Sumi-e Watercolor Impressions

Sumi-e Watercolor Impressions

High Places by Casey

Morning by Casey

As many of you that read my posts over the years know, I am a college instructor as well as a sumi artist. Well, I have great news today! My grades were turned in yesterday at the college which has freed me up to do more art this summer. I am very excited about that!

These two Sumi-e Watercolor Impressions were created yesterday on the first day of my summer vacation. I hope you enjoy seeing them. Using watercolor paper, sumi (ink), and Japanese watercolors. My sketches are minimalist. My painting philosophy is "Less is More'.

I was taught this way of thinking in art college when I attended Chouinard Art School in Los Angeles. It was in Mr. Moore's design class that I first learned it. That was a long time ago. However, as I progressed toward my passion of CBP (Chinese Brush Painting) or in Japan called Sumi-e, this way of thinking about painting stayed with me and has served me well.

These images are available from my Fine Art America site.

If you have the time, I would love for you to visit my art website. It's quite nice!
